भारत सरकार, गृह मंत्रालय, राजभाषा विभाग एवं भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान अनुसंधान परिषद मुख्यारलय, नई दिल्ली् के निर्देशानुसार, राजभाषा हिंदी के प्रचार-प्रसार और सरकारी कामकाज में हिंदी के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से प्रति वर्ष की भांति इस वर्ष भी आईसीएमआर - राष्ट्रीय जनजाति स्वास्थ्य अनुसंधान संस्थान, जबलपुर में 1 से 15 सितंबर, 2022 के दौरान ‘हिंदी-पखवाड़ा’ मनाया गया। जिसमे 02 सितंबर, 2022 को ‘हिंदी टंकण प्रतियोगिता’, 06 सितंबर, 2022 को ‘हिंदी निबंध लेखन प्रतियोगिता’ जिसका विषय “जनजाति समुदायों में रोगों से बचाव और स्वास्थ्य”, 07 सितंबर, 2022 को ‘हिंदी भाषण प्रतियोगिता’ जिसका विषय “ भारत की स्वतंत्रता के 75 वर्ष उपलब्धिया और चुनौतियां” और 08 सितंबर, 2022 को ‘हिंदी कविता-पाठ प्रतियोगिता’ जिसमे प्रतिभागियों ने हिंदी के महत्व‘ सहित विविध विषयों पर स्व रचित एवं अन्यं कवियों की रचनाएं प्रस्तुगत कीं। 15 सितंबर, 2022 को पखवाड़े के समापन के अवसर पर ‘राजभाषा पुरस्कावर वितरण कार्यक्रम’ में संस्थान के वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिक डॉ. तपस चकमा ने वैज्ञानिकों, अधिकारियों की उपस्थिति में इन दोनों प्रतियोगिताओं के विजेताओं को पुरस्कृत कर प्रमाण-पत्र प्रदान किए|

ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur celebrated 76th Independence Day of India with great pride, zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' & Director, ICMR-NIRTH unfurled the National flag in ICMR-NIRTH campus followed by recitation of the National Anthem. Dr. Das emphasized for dedication to the tribal health research activities and also point out that minimal voices of tribes are seen in society so he urged all staff to empower their voices through various project and research work. The Scientists, officers, staff, students and campus residents of ICMR-NIRTH and ICMR-NIMR field station at Jabalpur were present and participated in various activities on this occasion.

International Women's Day was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm on 8th March, 2021 at ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur. All female staff comprising of Scientists, officers, staff, project staff, students and causal workers of ICMR-NIRTH Jabalpur were felicitated on the occasion. Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ & Director, ICMR-NIRTH welcomed the participants and acquainted the house about the importance and role of women in life. He also apprised the audience on different scientific schemes of different government funding agencies for encouraging scientific research by female. The ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur celebrated ‘National Science Day – 2021’ on 28th February, 2021 through video conferencing with the theme “Future of Science, Technology and Innovation: Impacts on Education, Skills and Work”. Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ & Director, ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur welcomed the dignitaries, participants and addressed the participants on this year theme providing insights on how scientific ideas with help of technological advances can lead to innovations that will beneficial for skill development of the country. Following this, Dr. Pradip Barde, Scientist ‘E’, ICMR-NIRTH briefed about the scientific, research and field activities carried out by ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Tapas Chakma, Scientist ‘G’, ICMR-NIRTH described the Challenges in Public Health Research among Tribes. Dr. Praveen Kumar Bharti, Scientist ‘E’, ICMR-NIRTH briefed about kindling young minds for Science & Research. Dr. Neha Sharma, Professor-(Microbiology) Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College & Hospital, Solan, H.P. delivered the Science Day lecture on the subject “Science, Technology and Innovation: A Conglomerate of Nation's Inclusive Development”. The participants, research scholars, and students enthusiastically participated in the event and asked their queries from the experts. A spectacular parade was marched by the Security guards of ICMR-NIRTH. As per the direction of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, a team consisting of scientists, technical staff, project staff of ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur conducted the third round of national sero-survey for SARS-CoV-2 in 3 districts of Madhya Pradesh, i.e. Ujjain, Dewas and Gwalior from 30.12.2020 to 03.01.2021. The teams were assisted by the health staff and well supported by the district administration and health officials of the Madhya Pradesh Government. The survey was led by Dr. Rajiv Yadav, Scientist ‘E’; Dr. Praveen Bharti, Scientist ‘E’ and Dr. Pushpendra Singh, Scientist ‘E’ from ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur.

As decided by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Ji, ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur organized the Curtain Raiser Ceremony of 6th India International Science Festival (IISF-2020) on 10th December 2020 through video conferencing. Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Health and Family Welfare, Government of India appreciated ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur for its effort and contribution in strengthening the health services in the unreached areas for improvement of tribal health. He further added that the experience learnt and scientific evidences generated will be of immense help not only to researcher and academicians but also for the policy makers. He emphasized that the theme of IISF-2020 ‘Science for Self-Reliant India and Global Welfare’ is very pertinent in present context when the nation is looking up to Science and Technology for accelerating growth for spearheading vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. He stressed that IISF provides a platform for crosspollination of ideas and facts and invited budding researchers to shoulder the mantle for welfare of tribes. He highlighted three important diseases namely tuberculosis, malaria and haemoglobinopathies prevalent among tribal populations and also mentioned the impediments and the institute’s vision for improvement in healthcare delivery in tribal population. Dr. Jyothi T. Bhat, Scientist ‘E’, ICMR-NIRTH gave a overview of current scientific activities of ICMR-NIRTH and its field station. Dr. Samiran Panda, Head ECD-I, ICMR Hqrs., New Delhi spoke on the importance of society, culture and human behaviour in spread and containment of diseases specially in light of COVID-19. Shri Jayant Sahasrabudhe, National Organizing Secretary, VIBHA explained the aims and objectives of the IISF and mentioned the importance of ICMR-NIRTH in welfare of tribes. As per the directives of ICMR, ICMR-NIRTH field station, Keylong has conducted ‘Jan Andolan against COVID-19’ at the market place in lower and upper Keylong, Lahual & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh jointly with local State health Authorities of Himachal Pradesh on 23 and 24 November 2020. A two-day workshop was organized through Video Conferencing for capacity building of the staff on 18th and 21st November 2020. Dr. K. B. Saha Nodal officer imparted training to staff and planned activities. Under this program, various activities like, dissemination of information on preventive aspects of COVID-19 through interpersonal contacts, lectures and use of poster, banners and pamphlets were organized. Office of the Chief Medical Officer has provided medical doctors to be a part of this ‘Jan Andolan’. The programme was locally steered by Ms Bimla Devi, Officer-in-Charge of the field station. The Jan Andolan program was completed with a positive note under the guidance and support from Dr. Aparup Das, Director, ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur.

The Vigilance Awareness Week - 2020 was observed at the ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur from 27 October, 2020 to 02 November, 2020 with pride, zeal and enthusiasm, strictly following COVID-19 preventive measures. This year, the theme of Vigilance Awareness Week - 2020 was ‘सतर्क भारत, समृद्ध भारत (Vigilant India, Prosperous India)’. In compliance with instructions communicated by the Central Vigilance Commission through ICMR, New Delhi, all staff (Scientists/Officials/staff/students) of ICMR-NIRTH and ICMR-NIMR Field Station, Jabalpur took oath on 27th October, 2020. At the same time, Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ and Director, Dr. Tapas Chakma, Scientist ‘G’, Dr. K B Saha, Scientist ‘F’, the Sr. Administrative Officer and the Accounts Officer took pledge from Prof. Balram Bhargava, Secretary DHR and Director General, ICMR through video conferencing. Also, residents of ICMR-NIRTH campus took pledge from Dr. AK Mishra, Vigilance Office of ICMR-NIRTH. On 29 October, 2020, a speech competition was organized through video conferencing on the theme सतर्क भारत, समृद्ध भारत (Vigilant India, Prosperous India), where as many as 12 participants including Scientists/Officials/staff/ students of ICMR-NIRTH, ICMR-NIRTH Field Station at Keylong, Himachal Pradesh and ICMR-NIMR FS, Jabalpur were participated. On the final day of the Vigilance Awareness Week - 2020 (02 November 2020), an open-air event was organized with Smt. Neetu Tripathi, in-charge, Woman Crime Branch, Office of Divisional IG Police, Jabalpur, as the Chief Guest. On this occasion, Dr. A.K. Mishra elaborated on the activities conducted during the week-long vigilance awareness. Dr. Aparup Das, welcomed the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering on the importance of the moral values, transparency and stressed upon their key roles to build a corruption-free organization. Mrs. Tripathi, the Chief Guest delivered a motivating lecture and detailed the role of vigilant citizens in nation building, especially on women rights and empowerment. She distributed prizes to the participants of speech competition on vigilance awareness week. आईसीएमआर - राष्ट्रीय जनजाति स्वास्थ्य अनुसंधान संस्थान, जबलपुर, में “कोरोना (कोविड-19) के खिलाफ जन आंदोलन अभियान” मनाया गया भारत सरकार, सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी एवं भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान अनुसंधान परिषद मुख्यालय, नई दिल्ली द्वारा प्रेषित निर्देशों के अनुसार ‘आईसीएमआर - राष्ट्रीय जनजाति स्वास्थ्य अनुसंधान संस्थान’ (आईसीएमआर - एनआईआरटीएच), जबलपुर में 08 अक्टूबर 2020 को “कोरोना (कोविड-19) के खिलाफ जन आंदोलन अभियान” मनाया गया। इस अवसर पर संस्थान के वैज्ञानिक ‘जी’ एवं निदेशक, डॉ. अपरूप दास एवं डॉ. तापस चकमा, वैज्ञानिक ‘जी’ द्वारा संस्थान एवं आईसीएमआर-एनआईएमआर फ़ील्ड स्टेशन जबलपुर के सभी वैज्ञानिकों, अधिकारियों, स्टाफ, छात्रों एवं परियोजना स्टाफ को ‘कोविड-19 प्रतिज्ञा’ कराई गई जिसमे पर्याप्त सामाजिक दूरी, मास्क पहनना और हाथ धोना विशेष रूप से अनुसरण किया गया । डॉ. अपरूप दास, निदेशक ने कहा कि कोरोना से बचाव का हथियार मास्क पहनना, सामाजिक दूरी का पालन करना और हाथ धोना है, इसी सिद्धांत का पालन करते हुए सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर इन उपायों के बारे में जागरुकता बढ़ाने के अभियान को शुरू किया गया हैं ।

The ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur which is a unique institute in the country for conducting research on health of Indian tribes has recently been re-designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the Collaborating Centre for the "Health of Indigenous Populations" (WHO CC No. IND-111) for a period of four years w.e.f. 16 May, 2020. The Director and Staff of ICMR-NIRTH thank the Director General of ICMR, Professor Balram Bhargava for continuous support and motivations.

भारत सरकार, गृह मंत्रालय, राजभाषा विभाग एवं भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान अनुसंधान परिषद मुख्यारलय, नई दिल्ली् के निर्देशानुसार, राजभाषा हिंदी के प्रचार-प्रसार और सरकारी कामकाज में हिंदी के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्यर से प्रति वर्ष की भांति इस वर्ष भी आईसीएमआर - राष्ट्री य जनजाति स्वाेस्य्रू अनुसंधान संस्थारन, जबलपुर में 7 से 21 सितंबर, 2020 के दौरान ‘हिंदी-पखवाड़ा’ मनाया गया। कोबिड-19 संबंधी दिशानिर्देशों का पालन सुनिश्चित करते हुए इसके अंतर्गत सरकार के निर्देशानुसार अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों के लिए हिंदी वाद-विवाद एवं हिंदी कविता-पाठ प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन किया गया, जिनका समस्तव स्टावफ के लिए ऑनलाइन लिंक के माध्याम से प्रसारण किया गया। 10 सितंबर, 2020 को ‘हिंदी वाद-विवाद प्रतियोगिता’ संपन्नफ हुई, जिसके लिए जनजाति समुदायों के स्वा‍स्य्का और उनकी चिकित्साप पद्धति से जुड़ा विषय रखा गया था- ‘जनजाति समुदायों की पारंपरिक चिकित्सा उपचार प्रणाली प्रभावी है।' वैज्ञानिकों, अधिकारियों और स्टािफ सदस्योंं ने तर्कसंगत ढंग से इस विषय के पक्ष और विपक्ष में अपने विचार अभिव्यनक्त, किए। 14 सितंबर, 2020 को ‘हिंदी-दिवस’ के अवसर पर ‘हिंदी कविता-पाठ’ प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया। प्रतिभागियों ने हिंदी के महत्व‘ सहित विविध विषयों पर स्व रचित एवं अन्यं कवियों की रचनाएं प्रस्तुगत कीं। 21 सितंबर, 2020 को पखवाड़े के समापन के अवसर पर ‘राजभाषा पुरस्कावर वितरण कार्यक्रम’ में संस्थातन के निदेशक डॉ. अपरूप दास ने वैज्ञानिकों, अधिकारियों की उपस्थिति में इन दोनों प्रतियोगिताओं के विजेताओं को पुरस्कृ.त कर प्रमाण-पत्र प्रदान किए।

The ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur celebrated 74th Independence Day of India with grandeur, pride, zeal and enthusiasm, following certain COVID-19 preventive measures such as maintaining adequate social distancing, wearing of masks etc. Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' & Director, ICMR-NIRTH unfurled the National flag in ICMR-NIRTH campus followed by recitation of the National Anthem; parade by institution security guards and patriotic song. Dr. Das gave an inspirational speech and emphasized on dedication to the nation duty at the pandemic situation. He congratulated and motivated staff of ICMR-NIRTH involved in diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 at the institute since March 2020 for their untiring and dedicated public health services for Jabalpur and more than 10 other districts of Madhya Pradesh. On the occasion of “World Environment Day 2020” 5 June 2020, a mass plantation programme 'celebrating biodiversity' was organized at ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur campus on 05.06.2020 between 5 – 5.30 pm (during the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme) following social distancing. Around 140 saplings were planted by each interested staff member, including the Director, scientists, officers, technical staff, administrative staff, project staff and students of ICMR-NIRTH and ICMR-NIMR (FS), Jabalpur.

As per the direction of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, a team consisting of scientists, technical staff, project staff from National TB Prevalence Survey and other different projects from ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur conducted the national sero-survey for SARS-CoV-2 in 3 districts of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Ujjain, Dewas and Gwalior in phase-I from 14.05.2020 to 18.05.2020 and Indore district in phase-II from 25.05.2020 to 27.05.2020. The teams were assisted by the health staff and supported by the district administration and health officials of the Madhya Pradesh Government. As a part of the mandate of ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur and specially at a time to create trained manpower for diagnosis of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Madhya Pradesh, ICMR-NIRTH with concurrence of the ICMR Hqrs., New Delhi had conducted hands-on training on Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for diagnosis of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to 26 clinicians and technicians of five Government Medical Colleges of Madhya Pradesh. The medical colleges are: - 1) Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa 2) Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur 3) Government Medical College, Shahdol 4) Government Medical College, Khandwa 5) Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Chhindwara The trainings were conducted by Dr. Pradip V. Barde, Scientist ‘E’ and Head, division of Virology and Zoonotic diseases and Principal Investigator of the VRDL project and his team, ably supported by Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ and Director, ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur. The trainings were conducted in six different batches, from 30th March, 2020 to 29th April, 2020 in addition to regular ongoing diagnostic activity of novel coronavirus.

Foundation Day Activities The 37th foundation day of ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm on 4th March 2020. On this occasion a Tribal Health Fair (Adivasi Swasthya Mela) was organized at ICMR-NIRTH premises which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the occasion, Prof. G. S. Toteja, Additional Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. The traditional tribal healer particularly Baigas and Bhariyas displayed ethno-medicinal-practices in the fair. Also, several tribal artisans from different tribal communities displayed traditional products for e.g. handicrafts, herbal products for healing etc. A free diagnostic camp for different diseases was also organized for interested visitors to the fair. Notably, performances of an internationally acclaimed tribal tattoo artisan Ms. Mangla Maravi, and a bamboo artisan Ms. Suman Paraste from tribal communities have attracted the visitors of the fair. The fair was well attended by general public in large volume. In the foundation day ceremonial Prof. G. S. Toteja acted as the Chief Guest and Dr. Prabha Desikan, Director, Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Bhopal as the Guest of Honour. The event was started with welcome address and description about institute’s activities and achievements by Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ and Director, ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Toteja congratulated staff for excellent achievements on tribal health research. He emphasized to have enhanced coordination with the State Govt. and to publish research work regularly for better visibility on excellent research being conducted at ICMR-NIRTH. He also emphasized that concerted research should be main focus to control TB among Saharia PVTG inhabiting in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Dr. Prabha Desikan delivered foundation day lecture on the advances in laboratory diagnosis of tuberculosis. The ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur celebrated National Science day on 28th February 2020. On this occasion two different activities were organized. Firstly, to encourage school children on creativity and simultaneously to make them aware on health, a drawing competition was organized on the subject of Health and morbidity prevalent in the society. The best three creative displays were selected for award. Secondly, in order to inspire school children in science and to attract them to scientific thinking and passion, three scientific teams of ICMR-NIRTH independently visited three different schools [(i) Shri Ram Krishna Ashram School, Ghamapur, Jabalpur (ii) Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Kundam, Jabalpur and (iii) Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bargi Nagar, Jabalpur] majorly dominated by the tribal children. On this occasion the scientists delivered lecture about great Indian scientists including women scientists and their contribution to science and society. Following this, science quiz competition was organized and best performance were encouraged with small token of remembrance. The students were also educated on different diseases e.g. malaria, sickle cell disease, tuberculosis etc. About 500 students from different classes in three schools and the respective teachers have participated in this event.

Dr. Manjunathachar HV, Scientist ‘B’, ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health, Jabalpur attended ‘29th National Conference of Veterinary Parasitology and National Symposium’ on “Challenges, Opportunities and Innovations in Controlling Parasitic Diseases of Livestock and Poultry with Changing Environment” held from 5th to 7th February, 2020 at College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur. Dr. Manjunathachar delivered an oral presentation on ‘Molecular analysis of Orientia tsutsugamushi, the agent of scrub typhus from outbreak regions of Madhya Pradesh’ in Session V: Parasitic diseases of wild animals; and of zoonotic and public health significance. The presentation awarded Best Oral Presentation (First Place).

The Chutka Scientific Literacy cum Health and Wellness Festival was organized at Sardar Patel Group of Institutions, Mandla, Madhya Pradesh by Centre for Studies of Popular Science during 5-7 December, 2019 with the support from NPCIL/DAE, ICMR, ISRO, AYUSH, CSIR, MoES, DST and Government of India. The Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) is being observed at the ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur from 28th October, 2019 to 2nd November, 2019. Various activities were conducted in compliance to instructions communicated by Central Vigilance Commission through ICMR, New Delhi. The activities include oath taking by the staff under the leadership of Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' & Director. Pledge was also taken by residents of ICMR-NIRTH Campus. Pamphlets conveying the message and theme of this years VAW were distributed. Workshop on preventive vigilance was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr Tapas Chakma, Scientist 'G' to generate awareness among the staff followed by speech competition for staff and their children. On this occasion, the staff were also made aware and encouraged to take Integrity Pledge directly from the CVC website. On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of ‘Mahatma Gandhi’, ICMR-NIRTH has rolled out Mission SHAKTTI (School based Health Awareness, Knowledge Test and Training Initiative) programme in different schools of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic collaboration was signed between the Director, ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur, Dr. Aparup Das and the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sangeeta Shukla of Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on 3rd October, 2019 at Jiwaji University, Gwalior. During the execution ceremony of MOU, Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist ‘G’ & Director, ICMR-NIRTH acquainted the house about several new and out-of-box research initiatives taken by ICMR-NIRTH on health of tribal communities in India. The award was felicitated for the flagship project Mandla - Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project (M-MEDP) under a public-private-partnership model between the Indian Council of Medical Research (through ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur), Government of Madhya Pradesh and FDEC India. The Mahatma Awards were constituted in the United States and is presented annually to the individuals and organizations in acknowledgement of their impactful work and achievements. Dr. Pushpendra Singh, Scientist ‘E’, ICMR–National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur participated in the International Leprosy Congress (ILC) held in Manila, Philippines during 10th-13th Sept., 2019 and presented his research work on Identification of Biomarkers for early detection of leprosy using comparative Transcriptomics approaches. The theme of the Conference was "Global Partnerships: Zero transmission, Zero disability, Zero discrimination". There were participants from over 70 countries and 56 parallel session for oral talks (>300 talks) were organised during 3 days in addition to the daily Poster session (>130 posters) covering various aspects of leprosy control including laboratory research, disability management and rehabilitation, social aspects, policy and advocacy.

Dr. Nishant Saxena, Scientist ‘B’, ICMR–National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur participated in the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) 2019 Inter-Congress "World Solidarities" from 27-31 August in Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland. Dr. Saxena convened the panel on “Culture and Biology of the Indigenous People” and presented paper entitled “Leveraging ethnomedicine practices in tribes of India: A cross-road of culture and biology”. For this visit, Dr. Saxena received the ICMR’s Grant for Travelling Abroad for ICMR Research Cadre Scientists and also generous financial support from the Congress organizers. Further, Dr. Saxena has been recommended for inclusion in the IUAES Commission on Medical Anthropology and Epidemiology during the Congress. The Congress was the biggest conglomeration of anthropologists and other social-scientists from across the globe with more than 1,000 participants.

Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' & Director, ICMR-NIRTH hoisted the National flag in ICMR-NIRTH campus followed by the National Anthem. Dr. Das gave an inspirational speech and emphasized for dedication to the tribal health research activities. In compliance of Govt. instructions the official buildings of the institute were illuminating with LED color lights from August 14th - 17th, 2019. The Scientists, officers, staff, students and campus residents of ICMR-NIRTH and ICMR-NIMR field station at Jabalpur were present and participated in various activities including patriotic songs.

On this occasion, Ms. Nisha Siwal defended her PhD work and was conducted under the direct supervision of Dr. Das. Dr. Ashis Das, Professor, Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan, was the external examiner. Ms. Siwal successfully defended her PhD work, and declared to be eligible for a PhD degree by the committee. Dr. Siwal is the 10th student to be conferred Ph.D. under the direct supervision of Dr. Aparup Das.

ICMR's Social and Behavioral Research Forum's first meeting was held at ICMR-NIMS organized by ICMR, New Delhi on 30th May, 2019. Various ICMR institutes from 20 to more social scientists participated in this meeting in addition to scholars and their studies presented. Scientist from ICMR-NIRTH participated in this historic gathering and presented the socio-behavioral research related to tribal health. Dr.KB Saha, Scientist F from ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur, presented various social behavioral, community surveys on diseases and IEC based studies on malaria, reproductive health and the good practices achieved in the tribal population. Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Scientist E, ICMR-NIRTH, mentioned about the construction of huts of the Tribal population within the NIRTH premises. Dr. RK Sharma, Scientist E talked about bio statistical studies on tribal health and Dr. Nishant Saxena, Scientist B elaborated in his presentation on his studies on traditional healers, ethno medicine and its role in tribal society, etc.

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized in the premises of ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur on 28th May, 2019 in collaboration with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur. Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' and Director, ICMR-NIRTH inaugurated the camp. Many scientists and staff volunteers of ICMR-NIRTH took part in the blood donation with zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Sishir Chanpuriya, Blood Bank officer along with Ms. Archana Shukla, Ms. Rajni Tandon and other team member of NSCB Medical College Assisted in the blood donation process. ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur has been awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for ‘Research in Tribal Health’ on 27.05.2019 for a period of three years. In a meeting held on 27th May, 2019 at ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur, Vision Care Certification Pvt. Ltd., Bhopal has awarded certificate in this regard. Inaugurating the meeting, Dr. Aparup Das, Scientist 'G' & Director, ICMR-NIRTH acquainted the house about the importance of ISO certification and congratulated the scientists/officers/staff of ICMR-NIRTH and received the ISO 9001:2015 certificate of registration. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic collaboration on signed between the Director, ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur, Dr. Aparup Das and the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. TV Kattimani of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak on 15th May, 2019 at IGNTU, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh On this occasion, a National Workshop on "Tribal Health: Identifying the Gaps" also was jointly organized by ICMR-NIRTH and IGNTU, Amarkantak. While inaugurating the ceremony Dr. Aparup Das, Director, ICMR-NIRTH acquainted the house about several new and out-of-box research initiatives taken by ICMR-NIRTH on health of tribal communities in India He expressed the gaps in tribal health programs and try bridging these gaps with novel research. He specifically emphasizes connecting the tribal traditional healers to the public health system. Prof. Kattimani emphasized the importance of novel research in alleviating diseases prevailing in tribes. Many scientists from ICMR-NIRTH, dignitaries from industry, public health experts, representatives from NGOs, research scholars and many faculty members from IGNTU interested in research on tribal health were present in the event.

On the occasion of Swachha Pakhwada from 1st - 15th April 2019, ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (ICMR-NIRTH), Jabalpur organized a mass plantation program "Every One Plant One" at ICMR-NIRTH Campus from 9th - 11th April, 2019. Around 320 saplings were planted by every interested staff members, including the Director, scientists, officers, technical staff, administrative staff, project staff and ICMR-NIRTH and ICMR-NIMR (FS), Jabalpur.
